Kotoko ran and ran, before collapsing under a tree in exhaustion. Her eyes smarted and she ran for the door into the pouring rain. She couldn't string this pure soul along. Now, looking down on his earnest brown eyes, Kotoko knew she was wrong. His gestures were large and message was clear. Kinnosuke was as clear as Naoki was oblique. It was nice to find someone who put in 110% for her happiness. She had tried to date Kinnosuke and it worked for a little while. Sometimes, It felt like that love would destroy her. No matter how he embarrassed or demeaned her, she had held on. It seemed like she was a duckling who imprinted on him. Through the years, Kotoko had moments of self hatred for her futile love of Irie Naoki.
Despite forcing herself this past month, she felt nothing for him other than friendship. His love and desire shone on his face as he knelt with a modest engagement ring in his shaking hands. Kotoko glanced at Kinnosuke’s earnest face and her heart sank.
